The most prolific and productive record-maker in the Wu-Tang Clan pantheon, Def Jam core artist Ghostface Killah has completed his 16th career album called “Wu Massacre” in 2010 and added a fresh 6th solo album for Def Jam entitled “Apollo Kids” featuring artists such as Jim Jones, Raekwon, Method Man & Redman which includes his hit “2gheta Baby”.

R.I.P. DUTCH, HIP HOP PROMOTER & ESCAPE ENTERTAINMENT FOUNDER

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Escape Entertainment founder Matt ‘Dutch’ Garner . Dutch was senselessly murdered inside his home on Friday November 11th along with his friend, Einick Gitelman, in a double homicide.

“Dutch was the heart of Escape,” said his partner Sebastien Laberge. “I do not know how we will be able to continue without him. His contribution and dedication to young and upcoming artists was his passion. In his memory we will strive to keep Escape alive and make him proud of his accomplishments.”

Escape Entertainment – led by Dutch and Sabe – was responsible for bringing some of the biggest Hip Hop concerts to Montreal in the past several years. Escape produced over 30 concerts, including Busta Rhymes, Rick Ross, Classified, Method Man & Redman as well as legends like Ice Cube, Big Daddy Kane, and the late Guru from Gang Starr.




Concert promoter Mike Mendell from Global NTT cherished the time he worked with Dutch. “I first collaborated with Dutch 4 years ago for the Big Daddy Kane concert and was hooked from then. This team – Escape & Jesse Walker – had to have been the best independent group of promoters I have worked with. “

Dutch’s true passion was the Montreal Hip Hop scene. Many of the city’s rappers first opportunity came at an Escape concert, sharing the stage with some of Hip Hop’s biggest names. He worked closely with artists such as I.Blast, Magnum and the late Bad News Brown helping them achieve international prominence.

Dutch always promoted the local scene. The Escape website EscapeMTL.ca was full of music and videos from Montreal rappers. In collaboration with K103 radio, Dutch created the Real City Countdown, a weekly rundown of Montreal Hip Hop. He released CDs and mixtapes like Real City’s Finest showcasing the city’s talent.

“There is nobody in the Montreal Hip Hop community who has not been affected,” said long time collaborator Jesse Walker. “Whether they went to the concerts, watched the videos or listened to the songs on the radio and in the clubs. That is the legacy that will live on, and that is why Dutch will always be with us.”

The last concert Dutch worked on, Ghostface Killah will take place on November 27th at Club Soda. Part of the proceeds will go to the Bad News Brown Foundation in memory of Dutch.
